What's a standard fundraising plan?

The typical fundraiser goes something like this:

  1. Buy a bunch of goods (candy, knick knacks, wrapping paper, accessories with your logo , etc.).
  2. Try to sell as many of these as you can.
  3. Hopefully make more money than the cost of the goods.

What are the problems with the standard method?

The standard fundraising method can work great, but too often it fails for a few reasons:

  1. It requires large up-front costs to buy the merchandise in the first place
  2. There are limited opportunities to market or sell the items, especially since in-person events are much rarer nowadays
  3. Not enough items are sold so the cost was higher than the money earned
  4. It’s difficult to distribute goods and requires someone to manage the inventory, package items when they’re sold, and ship them to each person that buys.

Our Solution

Let us do the work for you. All you have to do is provide a logo, pick some items from our huge catalog of available merchandise, and let us know how much profit you’d like per sale.

We’ll create a custom store for you that comes with all the links you’ll need to share on social media or by email. Whenever someone buys an item from your store, we’ll print it, ship it, and deposit your profits in an account for you to withdraw anytime you want.

FAQs

We can set your store to have a deadline or keep it open as long as you want. We’ll work with you to figure out the best timeline.

We’ll help you create something that you’ll be proud to display. With our free online designer, we can help you design a logo or image in full color to print on almost anything you want.

The biggest difference is that we can cater to athletes. While there are a million shops that can print on cotton shirts, our technology allows us to make custom athletic apparel and goods.

What are Sublimated Jerseys? https://lightspeedjerseys.com/what-are-sublimated-jerseys/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-are-sublimated-jerseys Fri, 24 Apr 2020 01:46:01 +0000 https://lightspeedjerseys.com/?p=6314 Learn all about sublimation: what is it and when should you use it on your athletic jerseys?

The post What are Sublimated Jerseys? appeared first on BetFiery.

]]>

Most athletic shirts, performance apparel, and sports jerseys are made with the polyester. This wonder material is strong, durable, flexible, and doesn’t hold onto sweat like other materials, such as cotton, so it’s perfect for sports jerseys. The flip side of not holding onto moisture means that traditional inks don’t work to print designs.

Luckily, there’s another technique that allows polyester to be decorated. Sublimated jerseys use an advanced technology called sublimation.

Read on for everything you need to know about sublimated jerseys!

What Is Sublimation?

Since polyester doesn’t absorb liquid dye due to its moisture wicking abilities, the liquid colors have to be turned into a vapor to be absorbed by the fabric. By using special sublimation ink and high heat, the dye turns from a solid to a gas (sublimates) when heated. At the same time, the heat causes the polyester to open its pores and absorb the colorful gas until the colors are embedded in the fabric. When it cools, the dye turns back into a solid and becomes permanent. The colors and designs are now a part of the fabric so the image will last as long as the jersey. The design will never fade or crack and you won’t be able to feel it at all. And just like our normal Lightspeed printing, you can use full color designs on sublimated jerseys so you’ll never have to compromise on the image you create.

When Should I Use Sublimation and Sublimated Jerseys?

Sublimation is best for ordering more than 10 jerseys when you have a little extra time to wait as they’re made. Sublimation produces the highest quality athletic shirts, but it’s also the most difficult and expensive process for making jerseys.

Limitations:

Sublimation can only be used on white or light fabric. Since the colors are absorbed into the fabric, that means that if the fabric already has a color on it, both the new color and the old one merge together to create a 3rd color. Shown below is the same image sublimated on 3 different color shirts.

The solution to prevent this from happening is to print the background color at the same time as the design. This technique requires large industrial printers and expensive manufacturing machines to heat the design with the fabric. There are 2 common versions that you can order today:

  1. All Over Print (AOP)
  2. Cut-Sew

All Over Print (AOP)

This process takes a completed white jersey and a large design printed with special ink and presses them together using high heat.

Any creases or folds are left white leaving streaks throughout the design.

Sublimation white creasing problem

Cut-Sew

Designs are printed to sheets of fabric then are then cut out and sewn into the athletic shirt or apparel. This is the best way to make a jersey, but involves more steps and machines so it generally costs more and requires minimum orders. This is the technique we use for our fully sublimated jerseys.

Our Custom Jersey vs Competitors

There are a ton of custom jersey providers in the marketplace today. As the technology gets better and cheaper, even more are going to enter as well. We think that we created a great product that’s unique and offers some benefits over others, but there’s really no way of knowing that without checking out the competition.

Since we have multiple competitors, you can expect to see this article expand as we test their merchandise. If you’ve already read some of our other articles, you know that there are only a few printing types that work with athletic materials. With that in mind, we won’t need to test the same print type again and again in many instances, but can just add the competitor’s name to print type list.

If you’re curious about what technology a company is using that’s not listed here, go ahead and ask them. If they don’t tell you, then be careful about buying from them. Also, feel free to submit any findings you have with us using our Contact Form and we’ll send you a coupon off your next order as a Thank You!

Competitor Print Options

If you’ve read some of the other posts on here, you know that there are a limited number of ways to put your design on athletic shirts. Here’s the quick refresher of the options:
  1. Screenprint – great for large orders but not cost effective for small ones. Usually charges for setup and per color.
  2. Sublimation – highest quality printing, but can only be done on white fabric. That means that a company has to print the fabric before cutting the shirt out and sewing it together if you want anything other than a white jersey. Usually more expensive and requires minimum orders.
  3. Transfers – the design is printed on a substrate, usually vinyl, which is then applied to the garment with high heat. It allows full color designs with no minimums, but depending on the transfer, can create a final product that feels terrible.

Logo Sportswear Custom Jersey Review

When we came across the company Logo Sportswear, it seemed too good to be true. They offer a full color design on a jersey for only $24.99. When we started building the jersey, a couple red flags popped up:
  1. When choosing a jersey color other than white, there’s a $6 “Dark Upcharge”.
  2. Their delivery fee is $9.99 for a single jersey. Standard shipping for a single jersey should never be more than $5 base unless you’re getting rush shipping.

Order

We ordered one (1) black custom jersey with a full color designed on both sides.

The price breakdown was as follows:

    • Base Price: $24.99
    • Dark Jersey Fee: $6
    • Back Print: $3.95
    • Delivery Charges: $9.99
    • Taxes: $4.10
    • Total: $47.28

Lightspeed Pricing

The price breakdown was as follows:

    • Base Price: $35.00
    • Back Print: $5.00
    • Delivery Charges: FREE
    • Taxes: $4.00 (if in California)
    • Total: $44.00
Savings: $3.28

Shipping

Our jerseys are printed in 1-2 days and shipped First Class so most people get their jerseys in only 2-5 days.
Waiting time of 4 days average

Quality

Of course, it doesn’t matter as much if their jersey is higher quality, but unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. The method they used to print the jersey was print and cut vinyl, meaning they printed a full color design on a thin layer of plastic then applied that plastic to the jersey.

Logo Sportswear Print Up Close

Lightspeed Print Up Close

custom jersey comparison

You can see in the pictures below that while the colors of the design came out great, the design is essentially a huge sticker stuck to the jersey so the feeling was terrible. It doesn’t breathe or stretch. When you look at the one we made to compare, you can see that we only printed the design and not a border around it. We also put extremely small lines in the design so that it can breathe with the fabric and feels much lighter.

Texture of Logo Sportswear Jersey

Texture of Lightspeed Jersey

You can see that the fabric on the Logo Sportswear shirt stands straight up when bent and holds its shape while the fabric with the Lightspeed printing takes the shape of the fabric so it’s much softer. The color is a little less vibrant on the Lightspeed jersey, but it feels a million times better.

Final Thoughts

While I was initially excited to find another company that could print a single custom jersey with full color and reasonable prices, I quickly discovered that it didn’t meet my expectations for the following reasons:
  • Price was higher
  • It took 3x as long to get the jersey after ordering
  • The print looked good, but felt terrible
Stay tuned for more custom jersey comparisons!

Why Custom Athletic Wear is Difficult to Find https://lightspeedjerseys.com/custom-athletic-wear-is-difficult/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=custom-athletic-wear-is-difficult Wed, 25 Mar 2020 00:28:44 +0000 https://lightspeedjerseys.com/?p=6184 Everyone and their uncle offers custom shirts, but what makes custom athletic jerseys so much more difficult to find?

Why Custom Athletic Wear is Difficult to Find

Everyone and their uncle offers custom shirts, but what makes custom athletic jerseys so much more difficult to find?
Custom Athletic Wear

Why does this matter?

There are hundreds of companies that do a great job with custom printing. If you found us through a web search, you probably saw a bunch of the other companies as well. But when you started searching for a company to print custom athletic wear, especially if it’s only 1 or 2 jerseys that aren’t white, you probably couldn’t find many options. The difficulty in making these jerseys is due to current printing technology and the materials the jerseys are made out of.

Jersey Materials

Sweaty Cotton ShirtThe miracle material that took over the athletic apparel industry is polyester. Before the 1950’s, most athletic clothing was still made with cotton. While cotton breathes easily, there are a number of problems with using it as an athletic material: the biggest being that it holds moisture. That means that while you’re working up a sweat, your clothes are bogging you down while making you feel like you’re wearing a sponge. The moisture also turns the garments into breeding grounds for bacteria and body odor.

Polyester has advantages over cotton since it’s strong, both dry and wet. It is considered to be easy-care since it can be washed, dried quickly, and resists wrinkling. It also holds up well in use due to has high resistance to stretching, shrinking, most chemicals, abrasion, mildew, and moths.

The double-edged nature of this wonderful material is that since it doesn’t absorb things well, that means it’s much tougher to decorate with the normal water-based inks that cotton goods are decorated with.

Custom Athletic Wear Printing Technologies

Screen Printing

Screen Printing DiagramApparel printing can be broken down into the method of printing (machinery) and the ink being used. The most common print technique is screen printing. This is where a fine mesh screen is placed on top of the garment and ink is pushed through. The problem with screen printing is that it’s extremely labor intensive to set up so it only works on large batches. If you’re ordering 20+ items, this could work, but definitely not recommended for small batches. Most screen printers also only print one color at a time so the cost for a design goes up substantially if it has multiple colors.

Sublimation

The second most common method for printing custom athletic wear is sublimation. This uses a special ink that’s absorbed into plastics, but it requires a lot of resources since the machines to print are expensive and in order to have anything but a white shirt as the base, you also need to print all the pieces of the clothing then cut them out and sew them together. So with this method, you not only need fancy equipment, but a tailor/seamstress to put everything together as well. Most fully sublimated clothing is outsourced to other countries since the costs are so high in terms of machines and labor, but this also means that you have to order large quantities to make it worthwhile and you have to wait weeks to get the items shipped.

If a company offers sublimation with no minimums and fast turnaround, most times it’s “spot sublimation.” This just means that they can print a specific area on a white garment, but can’t print colors throughout the entire thing. There’s nothing wrong with this, it just means you can’t get a colorful jersey, only a colorful design on a white jersey.

Direct to Garment (DTG)

Direct to Garment printing is essentially using a modified inkjet printer to print directly on the shirt. This is the best method for producing individual items since there’s not a huge setup involved as there is with screen printing. The problem for athletic goods is that this uses thin or water-based inks and, as mentioned earlier, polyester doesn’t absorb ink at all. The only way around this is to spray the jersey with a special chemical to allow the ink to stick to the top. Even then, since the ink isn’t embedded into the jersey, it shows cracking easily and doesn’t have the same durability as other methods.

Transfers

Finally, transfers are methods of using some sort of adhesive to glue a design to the jersey. Most of these are done with very thin sheets of vinyl that are either individually colored, or have images printed on them. These are applied with high heat to melt the adhesive into the fabric. The only equipment needed is something to cut the vinyl and something to melt it to the shirt. With a low cost of equipment, you’ll find many sellers that do single or double color designs on places like Etsy. For full color designs, you need special printing equipment to print onto the vinyl before cutting and transferring it so the costs are much higher.

Vinyl transfers you have great durability so these are often used for names and numbers that go on jerseys, but the feeling is like a sticker is put on top since that’s essentially what’s happening. They can’t breathe and they don’t allow for fading designs into the fabric color or having very intricate designs that aren’t a part of a big block of vinyl.

Lightspeed

We’ve developed a hybrid option that transfers the design onto the jersey without having to print it on a vinyl base first. It uses the best parts of both the screen-printing and DTG printing put together. Designs use a plastic-based ink like screen printing, but it does so with a technology that keeps it only a few microns thin so they can bond with the fibers of the jersey much better. There’s a small amount of adhesive used to temper the bond, but it doesn’t require a whole sheet of vinyl like standard transfers so it doesn’t feel like a sticker.

We’ve also developed our system to add very tiny holes or lines throughout the design if there’s large areas of ink so the jersey will still feel extremely soft and can breathe properly. This way, you don’t have to worry about what type of design you want. You don’t have to limit the colors, the size of the design, or the background color of the jersey that it’s printed on.

Summary

To summarize, there are 5 main methods used today to decorate custom athletic wear:

  1. Screen Printing – can’t print low quantities efficiently
  2. Sublimation – can’t print low quantities efficiently except on white jerseys
  3. Direct to Garment (DTG) – can’t print on polyester well
  4. Transfers – most are vinyl which don’t breathe and feel like a sticker
  5. Lightspeed – hybrid method allowing the design to be full color and light feeling

Learn about Dropshipping

Learn more about dropshipping and its benefits and disadvantages.

What is it?

Do you know what dropshipping is? You may have seen that term thrown around the internet as you’ve searched for things to buy. In fact, if you’ve ever purchased something from Amazon, Ebay, Etsy, or one of the other big online marketplaces, chances are good that you’ve seen or ordered from a dropshipper.

So what it is? Well, dropshipping is just a fancy way of saying that the goods you’ve ordered from one company are shipped out from another. For instance, if you order an item from Amazon, but the listing says “Ships from and sold by ______”, then you just bought a dropshipped item.

Why do companies do this?

The short answer is that some companies are better at marketing and some are better at producing. When the two companies team up, each one can focus on what they’re good at to make sure the customer gets the best experience.

In our example from above, Amazon is really good at compiling goods for sale and matching customers with the items they want. Although Amazon has warehouses throughout the world, they can’t store every item from every seller and they definitely can’t produce most items. The Mom and Pop Shop in the example is probably very good and producing a small amount of a particular item, but they’re probably not going to have the resources that Amazon has to advertise those items or make sure people looking for them online can find them. With millions of small businesses in the US alone, even a simple Google search can’t always find what someone is looking for.

By teaming up, Mom and Pop Shop can gain a wider audience for their goods and Amazon gets a percentage of whatever Mom and Pop Shop sells in return for listing those items in their marketplace.

Is this better or worse than buying directly from the shop?

Unfortunately, there’s no clear answer on this and it really depends on the situation. Generally, when buying directly from a seller, the price would be lower since there aren’t any fees for listing the item. At the same time, having an intermediary can protect you if something goes wrong.

Benefits of buying from a dropshipper

  • Ability to find the item you’re looking for easier
  • An intermediary can protect you (e.g. Amazon and Ebay have guarantees that the person selling may not have)
  • Encourages small businesses to thrive instead of buying solely from the big chains

Disadvantages of buying from a dropshipper

  • Higher costs since there are listing or affiliate fees
  • You don’t always know where your goods are coming from. Buying a shirt could get you something made with exploited workers in a developing country or you could get a handcrafted item made ethically by an artisan
  • Many companies can slap their name on the same item and call it there own, making it difficult to figure out what you’re buying.

Does BetFiery use dropshipping?

Yes and No.

Both our custom printed jerseys and our spot-sublimated goods are all made in our own small shop. We order the shirts from another company that sustainable sources the goods and we add your images and logos, then ship them directly to you.

Our full sublimation goods are produced in a partner shop and are dropshipped. Full sublimation involves lots of very large and very expensive machines along with more skill to sew together the apparel after it’s printed instead of what we’re good at, printing on already formed apparel. Due to the limitations, we found a partner that’s US based and does a great job printing, cutting, and sewing the apparel that we can’t do.

Can BetFiery dropship for me?

Yes.

One of the benefits of our technique is that we can not only print a custom design on apparel, but we don’t have a minimum order so we can make just one or one thousand. We can also put your brand on any goods that you’d like us to print.

There are some really good companies out there that can print and ship a lot of items. Athletic apparel is one category that very few companies are able to do well though, which is why BetFiery was created in the first place. Other companies usually require large orders, limit the design to a fixed number of colors, or have a long wait time to ship items since many companies outsource their production to China.

If you’re interested in having us fulfill your orders, send us a message and we’d be happy to discuss some solutions that we may be able to offer.

Tournament Orders

As if organizing a tournament wasn't already hard enough with getting registrations and booking fields, most tournaments come with a jersey as well. We can help make it much smoother!

Why should you provide jerseys for your tournament?

There are plenty of good reasons, but the biggest of them all is that in order to grow your event, people have to know about it. Marketing is a huge component of any successful event or business. Of course there’s going to be some word of mouth about the awesome time people will have, but having your logo displayed on a piece of clothing helps advertise your event throughout the year, especially if you make it colorful and memorable. As people wear their jerseys around town or at various pickup games, more potential players will learn about your event and it will be even more successful in the future.

But what about my concerns?

You have enough to worry about already so let’s address some of the concerns you may have.

With our quick turnaround, you can keep the registration open longer so you won’t have to worry about losing players to procrastination. And you know how much players like to procrastinate.

Nope. You can customize to your hearts delight. Full color designs are the same low price as single color ones so you can stop counting colors or limiting your designer to only 1 color to save money.

While we can’t do a full design for you, but we do have a number of tools to help. Your designs don’t have to be super fancy either. Something as simple as adding player names and numbers means the participants are far more likely to keep this jersey in their regular rotation. We can add also add flair like foil or glitter accents to make your jersey stand out.

Custom jerseys aren’t just another piece of clothing that you get at the store, these are mementos to remind people of the great time they had. This just happens to be a memento that can be used over and over again so instead of giving out lanyards or buttons, people will keep using these jerseys year-round and remember the fun they had while waiting to sign up again.

Sure you can, but what kind of identity do you want your event to have? Looking out on a field of rainbows is far more attractive than seeing a pile of skittles spread around. Having fixed colors for the teams gives everyone a team identity. While uncoordinated jerseys work for pickup, ask yourself if you want your event to feel like another pickup game or something more special. We have 25 colors to choose from and they’re all unique enough that no 2 teams will have to worry about whether they brought an extra light or dark. Plus, there’s always that one person who wears a grey or light blue jersey. You know who I’m talking about.

  VS

It does increase the cost a little, but it also adds a huge value to the tournament. Without offering value, there’s far less incentive for people to pay money for something they can do for free at a casual pickup game. This ensures that the tournament can remain profitable and sustain itself for future years. Some teams even get the cost subsidized by sponsors and we have no problem adding their logo along with your design.

Okay, I'm convinced, how much do these cost?

We have options as low at $10 per jersey. That’s not for some cheap cotton shirt with a single color either. This is for a full color design on a premium dri-fit jersey. Send us a message here and we’ll work within your budget to get some great options for your event.

How Do We Compare?

There are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of shirt and jersey companies out there. What makes us any different from the rest? Well, besides having a more colorful logo, we are the best choice for getting a custom jersey fast without having to compromise designs, timing, or prices!

Lightspeed Printing

We make it simple to get what you want with less hoops to jump through.

  • Straightforward and upfront pricing so you don’t need to search for costs or request quotes
  • No minimum order sizes – ordering a single jersey is no problem!
  • Fast turnaround – we usually print in just 1-3 days so you get your jersey faster!
  • No compromising on colors – Other manufacturers count colors and charge more; we allow unlimited color designs for the same price
  • Free Online Designer – you may not be a photoshop expert and can still create a kick-ass design with our simple to use tool! Save your design to work on later or share it with friends easily.

Sublimation

  • Straightforward and upfront pricing so you don’t need to search for costs or request quotes
  • Low Minimum Order Size – only 10 pieces needed in the initial order with the ability to re-order a single piece later
  • Fast Turnaround – we usually print in just 2 weeks, almost half the time of our competitors!
  • Custom Design Help
  • Cut-sew Sublimation for most items for the highest quality products

A Note on Manufacturing:

Our printed jersey supply chain is monitored by the Fair Labor Association (FLA) to ensure ethical treatment of workers and our sublimation jerseys are manufactured in the US and Haiti (for larger orders). One thing to be on the lookout for is foreign manufacturing. Many of the printing companies outsource to the Philippines or China to save costs. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with this, it’s good to know where your gear comes from and that it’s created in an ethical way. Foreign manufacturing also means longer turnaround, especially if the manufacturer only ships directly to the distributor who then repackages the shirts to ship to the customer.
